About Tangle Tidy

Tangle Tidy is a relaxing untangle puzzle on a craft-table corkboard. Each colourful yarn rope hangs between two wooden pegs - drag rope ends to empty pegs until no two ropes cross. Ropes lying on top pin the ends beneath them, so plan your moves; every one of the 24 levels is checked to be solvable within its move limit.

Colourful yarn ropes are knotted across a corkboard of wooden pegs - drag rope ends to empty pegs until not a single rope crosses another, but ends pinned under a higher rope stay locked until you lift the one on top.

How to play Tangle Tidy

Mouse

Drag a rope's knot to an empty peg and let go. While dragging, the red crossing marks update so you can see the result before dropping. You can also click a knot and then click a peg.

Touch

Press a knot and slide it to a glowing empty peg - the knot floats just above your finger. Or tap a knot, then tap the peg you want.

Keyboard

Arrow keys or Tab pick a rope end, Enter lifts it, arrow keys choose an empty peg, Enter drops it and Escape cancels. H shows a hint and R restarts.

💡 Tips & tricks

  • Look for a single move that clears two crossings at once - it saves moves and earns a combo.
  • A knot with a lock is pinned under the rope lying on top of it; move that top rope first.
  • A rope you move is laid on top of the others, which can pin the ropes it now crosses.
  • With only one empty peg, think about which peg each move frees up for the next one.

✨ Features

  • 24 levels from 3 ropes to 9-rope tangles on boards up to 5 by 7 pegs
  • Live crossing preview while you drag
  • Layered ropes: ends pinned under a higher rope stay locked
  • Hints that show a rope end and where to put it; progress saved in your browser

Tangle Tidy FAQ

Can every level be solved?

Yes. Each level is built by scrambling a tidy board with reversible moves, and a checker replays a stored solution with the real rules to confirm it ends with zero crossings within the move limit.

Why can't I move some rope ends?

An end is pinned when a rope lying above it crosses its half of the rope. A small lock shows on pinned ends; move the rope on top first.

What happens when I run out of moves?

The level ends if crossings remain. You can try again, or watch an optional ad for five extra moves and keep your board.
